Cross into the kingdom of the Mountain Gorillas in Uganda, navigating through the dense jungle to reach these critically endangered primates in person. An experience like no other, this trip may highlight the Gorillas but includes another excursion into the illustrious Budongo Central Park Reserve to track chimpanzees in their treetop havens and a relaxing boat cruise along the Nile River.
Your journey begins with a visit to Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile River bursts through a narrow gorge to create one of Africa’s most dramatic waterfalls. Along the way, we pass through Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary with the possibility of a rhino walk, an up-close conservation success story.
In the heart of Budongo Forest, step into East Africa’s largest mahogany woodland in search of chimpanzees. With an expert guide leading the way, this trek offers a glimpse into the lives of these enigmatic animals, followed by the cruise along the Nile. Winding along our scenic route, we head to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here, the expansive views set the tone for the natural grandeur ahead. Crossing the Equator, you’ll reach Lake Bunyonyi, a peaceful highland lake dotted with islands, and your base for the pinnacle of the tour: Gorilla or Golden Monkey Trekking.
In this secular region, with only a few hundred mountain gorillas left in its forests and the reclusive nature of the endangered Golden Monkeys, encountering them in their misty forest home is both rare and profound. Whether trekking through Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or nearby reserves in Rwanda or the DRC, your visit directly supports conservation and local communities. Between days, unwind by the lake, explore nearby villages, or enjoy optional excursions like boat rides and mountain biking.
From the tranquility of Lake Bunyonyi, the adventure shifts to Lake Mburo National Park, a birdwatcher’s paradise with opportunities for walking safaris, night game drives, and cycling among zebras and antelope. Finally, the journey ends in Jinja, where the Nile spills from Lake Victoria. Whether you choose whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, or an idyllic sunset cruise, Jinja offers the perfect finale to a route filled with extraordinary encounters, serene beauty, and unforgettable memories of Africa’s untamed heart.
