This extravaganza of Tanzania’s resplendent safari encounters alongside Zanzibar’s azure waters and interwoven history begins in Nairobi, Kenya. We set off over the border and into the Tanzanian savannah, world renowned for its wildlife density and diversity.
Immersed deep in the heart of the African continent, you’ll be surrounded by the treasured beauty of the Serengeti. Lions stalk the tall grasses, elephants roam across golden plains, and sunrise casts a warm radiance over a landscape alive with fauna. A full day safari brings outstanding encounters with Africa’s most iconic animals. If you are craving more, there is a popular pre-bookable optional hot air balloon safari that lifts you above the grassland, taking to the more inaccessible areas of thicket.
From Seronera, journey to the Ngorongoro Crater, a jaw-dropping natural amphitheater teeming with wildlife. You descend into the caldera at dawn, cruising past shimmering lakes, acacia forests, and expansive grasslands in search of lions, rhino, flamingos, and more. The abundance and proximity of animals in this enthralling, enclosed ecosystem makes for a truly surreal safari.
The road continues toward Karatu, pausing at the Mto wa Mbu market which offers a colorful taste of local life. Bright produce, handmade crafts, and the region’s famed red bananas fill the stalls, providing a glimpse into the vivacious culture of Tanzania, with more to come.
As the savannah recedes, we take to the Tanzanian coast and the town of Bagamoyo, once an epicenter of the East African slave trade, now a place of reflection and tranquility. From here, a ferry whisks you across cerulean waters to the island of Zanzibar.
In Zanzibar, time slows down. Settle into beachside bliss or voyage into the island’s more adventurous side with plenty of optional water activities. You’ll wander the spice-scented alleys of Stone Town on a guided tour, soaking in its menagerie of Swahili, Arab, and colonial heritage beholding its many historic landmarks and the birthplace of Freddie Mercury. Alongside the historical route, we also tour the famous spice plantations that fill the island’s flavorful cuisine.
It’s the perfect way to end a journey that blends dazzling African wildlife and island serenity with a cultural infusion, capturing the very essence of Tanzania.
