With the break of dawn in Windhoek, the air buzzes with anticipation as you gather alongside your fellow adventurers and seasoned guides, all brimming with excitement. Our eyes are set on the horizon, where Botswana lies awaiting our arrival. Prepare to embark on our thrilling 9-day Delta and Chobe Trail expedition, a journey many seasoned globe-trotters deem the pinnacle of African safaris. Our initial overnight stay brings us to the doorstep of Etosha National Park, where we’re embraced by the sheer magic of the wilderness. The park’s campsites nestle on the brink of waterholes, creating tranquil evenings spent in the comforting glow of the setting sun, with the symphony of thirsty animals making their way to the waterhole. We’ll navigate through Etosha’s terrain on a full-day exploration in our Nomad truck, grazing the edges of the Etosha Pan, in search of the bountiful wildlife that the park safeguards. From Etosha, we enter the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA), which is a remarkable cross-border conservation initiative, merging the territories of five African nations and overnight on the Kavango River before we steer towards the Botswana border. As our expedition unwinds, each mile through Botswana further reveals the stunning beauty, boundless landscapes and enthralling experiences the southern African country tenderly cradles in its heart. The journey brings us face to face with one of Earth’s most exquisite natural wonders, the Okavango Delta in Botswana. With a brief pit stop in Maun to replenish supplies, you seize the opportunity to admire the breathtaking Okavango Delta from the skies. Leaving the comforts of our truck behind, we then swap asphalt for raw wilderness aboard 4×4 safari viewing vehicles, setting our sights on the Khwai Conservation Area. Khwai’s location, on the northern fringe of the Okavango Delta, is our gateway to exploring the sweeping plains for its diverse wildlife. Hitching rides on mokoros (traditional canoes), we follow the underwater trails left behind by hippos and embark on guided nature walks through the unspoiled islands dotting the Okavango Delta. From Khwai, we indulge in a full day of game driving, meandering through the legendary Moremi Game Reserve before heading off to the vast and endless Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. We then find ourselves on the verdant banks of the Chobe National Park. An afternoon safari cruise down the Chobe River offers a new perspective to view and appreciate the fauna. Chobe National Park’s undeniable charm and abundant wildlife make it Botswana’s most treasured and visited nature reserve. However, all good things must come to an end, and as we bid adieu to Botswana, we cross the frontier into Zimbabwe, aiming for the nearby town of Victoria Falls. Here, you get to marvel at the world’s largest curtain of cascading water or immerse in the plethora of activities that this remarkable destination has to offer.
