Trace through Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia’s gems, from the Serengeti National Park to the famous island of Zanzibar, this journey is a gala of East Africa’s flourishing culture and natural marvels.
Beginning with the outstanding view of Victoria Falls from the Zambian side, we amble northwards through the country’s verdant countryside, viewing rural life all the way to its bustling capital on our way to reach South Luangwa National Park. En route, we visit Mulberry Mongoose Curios, who employ local women to create jewellery from poacher’s snares. Consisting of two woodlands of Mopane and Miombo respectively, this park offers diverse wildlife and activities with which to see them. You’ll be treated to a sunset safari and have the option to join a walking safari, treating you to an intimate look into this wilderness.
Transitioning into Malawi, the crystalline waters of Lake Malawi stretch to the horizon. Days here are blissfully slow-paced, with time for sun-soaked leisure and swimming, alongside an optional hike to Dwanbazi Waterfall. The road continues into Tanzania, heading to Iringa, where travellers are treated to the fascinating taste and process of coffee harvesting. A sojourn to Mikumi National Park brings baobab trees into view, presenting plenty of opportunities to search for fauna like elephants and lions, or book cultural excursions.
After a brief overnight stay in Dar es Salaam or Bagamoyo, we ferry into Zanzibar. A true amalgamation of idyllic and zesty, this island is a blend of spices, history and paradise. We take you on a walking tour of Stone Town and a Spice tour, but there are a platter of ocean pursuits like snorkeling, marine safaris and beach bars to do over our two days here.
Returning to mainland Tanzania, we travel north through Bagamoyo and Moshi, visiting Mto wa Mbu Market for local produce and crafts before arriving in the Serengeti. Home to not just one, but several, natural phenomena, our first day here begins with an early rise to explore the magnificent caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater. Teeming with wildlife and surrounded by ridges, this area houses the Big Five in all their glory and plenty of giraffe and hippo. Delving further into the heart of the Serengeti, a full day of the quintessential safari experience awaits, roaming the open plains for animals and birdlife hidden in the golden grasses. For an exhilarating and unconventional perspective, we also have a highly recommended hot air balloon safari as a popular option.
Even all great things must come to an end, and this journey concludes as we cross Kenya’s border and arrive in Nairobi, having gained cherished memories of iconic African escapades.
