Sightseeing astonishing contrasts and landmarks of Southern Africa, this tour is a bestseller for a reason. From Namibia’s glowing dunes to Botswana’s expansive waterways, this is a journey of fluctuating landscapes, standout wildlife, and unfiltered beauty that will stay with you eternally.
We begin in Cape Town, cradled between ocean and mountain, tracing the road through the rooibos-draped Cederberg Mountains. Continuing into Namaqualand, we enter the threshold of the desert that bursts into orange and yellow wildflowers during the spring (July to September). At the Gariep river, there is the option to paddle out onto its waters in the morning before continuing to Fish River Canyon that slices through the earth.
Turning to another fanciful landscape, roam the Quiver Tree Forest and boulders of the Giants Playground, ancient and surreal. You’ll enter Namib-Naukluft National Park, ascend the imposing red sands of Dune 45 and wander the preserved forests of Deadvlei’s white pan, any traveller’s bucket list photo opportunity. Swakopmund’s coastal-dunes present ample opportunity for adrenaline, such as quadbiking or sandboarding before venturing inland to the Brandberg Mountains, traipsing the prehistoric rock art along its caverns. Resilient wildlife takes precedent in Etosha National Park, a rugged land of white gravel. Across two days, we will search Etosha’s watering holes for the Big Five, who gather alongside giraffes and black rhino.
Proceeding into Botswana, we enter the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA). Embarking on a boat cruise, we ease ourselves into the prosperous oasis of the Okavango Delta on the Kavango River. The Khwai Conservation Area brings us into grassland and the heart of the wilderness. Experience the Okavango from a different perspective on mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) along the reed lush waterways. A full day is devoted to animal spotting in Moremi Game Reserve, a safari haven known for its predator-rich terrain. The path curves southward, pausing at Makgadikgadi Pans, where time seems to stand still.
Our final days are defined by the lifeblood of all living things: water. First, you’ll sojourn onto the Chobe River, where boat cruises impart golden-hour views of bathing elephants and hippos. Then, our tour ends at the drumming of Victoria Fall’s downpour, its tumbling mist a sensational sight. Whether you choose to do an exhilarating optional activity or explore the rainforest trails cloaked in mist, this finale is nothing short of electric.
This tour is a route written in Africa’s unique fingerprint, steeped in a juxtapositioned terrain. Journeying here means writing your own chapter in Africa’s story.
