Exceptional and atypical, this tour boasts quintessential and rarer safari experiences alongside a highlight reel of Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique, a revelry in contrasting landscapes, vibrant culture and endangered wildlife.
South Africa’s rugged mountains yields to the amber terrain of Namibia, where its arid landscape holds many a vista. Between the vast Fish River Canyon that carves into the earth and the whimsical Quiver Tree Forest and Giant’s Playground, you’ll be submerged in the ancient and surreal. Namib-Naukluft National Park is famous for its many sights, like Dune 45’s climb and Deadvlei’s withered camelthorn trees. Swakopmund greets thrill-seekers with sand dunes and sea spray, before we hike to San rock paintings in the Brandberg Mountains, voices for the ancient indigenous culture.
Venturing into Namibia’s northeast, the white plains of Etosha invite us on safari, where waterholes serve as oases for the resilient wildlife. Entering Botswana’s embrace, we descend into the cradle of the Okavango Delta. In the Khwai region, a mokoro safari reveals nature’s quieter symphony of lilies and waterways. Full-day game drives through Moremi Game Reserve stitch together wetlands, savannas, and woodland teeming with life. From the Delta’s stillness, we shift to the Chobe River for a boat cruise where elephants and hippos gather along the banks in a stirring display of life on water’s edge. Traveling southwards, we reach Victoria Falls which greets us with an uproaring fanfare of mist and rainbows.
Crossing into South Africa, a long drive is worth the wait as we arrive in the Kruger region. Experience golden-hour game drives and guided bush walks in the surrounds, followed by the scenic majesty of the Panorama Route with views like God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and the Blyde River Canyon. A full-day safari in Kruger National Park offers a fitting wildlife crescendo before heading to Johannesburg for the next leg of the route.
Arriving in Mpumalanga, hike the rolling highlands of Eswatini at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoy a thrilling rhino-focused drive at Hlane Game Reserve. Next, we cross into Mozambique and head to Xai Xai, for a taste of salt-kissed air before continuing to Vilanculos, the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago. White sands and turquoise waters beckon with opportunities to snorkel, dive, or unwind. A full-day dhow tour to Magaruque Island adding a castaway fantasy to our journey.
Further north, we arrive at Inhambane and the paradise of Barra Beach. Two dreamy days unfold with beachside dining, markets, and a detour to vibrant Tofo. In Maputo, our guide reveals the city’s unique fusion of African, Arabic, and Portuguese charm on a walking tour. Our journey concludes with a drive back to Johannesburg, leaving a trail of memories of the idyllic respite of Mozambique alongside the many wonders of Namibia and Botswana.
