Tanzania Bush & Beach is an 11-day journey that pairs a private northern-circuit safari with a slower, restorative stretch on Zanzibar's northeast coast. The first seven days move through Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater in a private safari vehicle with a guaranteed window seat for every guest; the remaining four days shift pace entirely, from a guided Stone Town city and spice tour to open leisure time on the beach at Matemwe.
What sets this route apart is the combination of a genuinely private game-viewing vehicle (Land Cruiser with photo roof, exclusive to your group, capped at 6 guests) with an uninterrupted beach finish rather than a rushed add-on -- the safari and the coast are each given real time, not compressed into one another.
It suits travellers who want both the classic northern Tanzania parks and a proper beach recovery in the same trip, without switching operators or standards partway through. The pace is comfortable rather than rushed: one dedicated full day in the Serengeti with no fixed agenda, and two full leisure days on Zanzibar with no scheduled activity at all.
Comfort level is premium-hosted throughout: en-suite lodge and tented-camp accommodation on safari (two guests per room/tent), a private guided vehicle rather than a shared group truck, and en-suite hotel rooms on Zanzibar.
Ngorongoro Crater game drive
A descent onto the crater floor of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to dense concentrations of lion, hyena, zebra, wildebeest, warthog, Thomson's gazelle and over 500 recorded bird species.
A full day in the Serengeti
One day set aside entirely for game drives around the Seronera Valley's acacias and fig trees, with the itinerary left open so you can shape the day around what you want to see. Hot air ballooning over the Serengeti is available as an optional activity.
Stone Town & Spice Tour
A guided walk through Stone Town's historic streets and Zanzibar door architecture, the Sultan's Palace Museum, the Old Arab Fort and the House of Wonders, followed by a guided spice-farm tour on the island's plantations.
Matemwe beach time
Two full leisure days on Zanzibar's northeast coral coast, with the hotel's spa, daily yoga, snorkelling, diving and fishing available, or simply time on the white sand beach.
Day 1
Airport Transfer Kilimanjaro (JRO) – Moshi
Pick-up at Kilimanjaro International Airport, then a transfer to your hotel in Moshi.
Day 2
Moshi – Tarangire National Park
Drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant population, baobab trees and a varied landscape of hills, savannah and swamp fed by the Tarangire River, followed by a game drive.
Day 3
Tarangire – Lake Manyara
Drive via the southern entrance to Lake Manyara National Park, passing hot springs favoured by birdlife and buffalo, with giraffe, zebra and elephant frequently seen, before reaching the Hippo Pool in the afternoon.
Day 4
Lake Manyara – Serengeti National Park
Drive to the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, entering the park through the Naabi Gate for a first look at the plains ahead of a game drive.
Day 5
Serengeti National Park
A full day devoted to game drives around the Seronera Valley, with the day's pace and route left open to you.
Day 6
Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater
Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, reaching the rim around lunchtime, then descend onto the crater floor for a game drive. Serengeti hot air ballooning is available as an optional activity today.
Day 7
Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha – Zanzibar
Drive back towards Arusha with a stop at Mto wa Mbu village market, then fly from Arusha to Zanzibar. On arrival at Zanzibar Airport you'll be met and transferred to Stone Town.
Day 8
Stone Town City Tour and Spice Tour – Matemwe
A guided city tour of Stone Town taking in the Zanzibar doors, the local market, the fish market, the Sultan's Palace Museum, the Old Arab Fort, the Anglican Church, the House of Wonders and Forodhani Park, followed by an afternoon Spice Tour through Zanzibar's spice farms. Afterwards, transfer to Matemwe on the island's northeast coral coast.
Day 9
Leisure day – Matemwe
No scheduled activity is included today. The day is available for relaxation or personal arrangements -- the hotel's SPA, daily yoga sessions, and water sports such as snorkelling, diving and fishing are all available, or simply spend the day along the white sand beach.
Day 10
Leisure day – Matemwe
No scheduled activity is included today. The day is available for relaxation or personal arrangements, with the same SPA, yoga and water sports options as Day 9.
Day 11
Transfer from Northeast Coast to Zanzibar Airport
Transfer from Matemwe on Zanzibar's northeast coast to Zanzibar Airport for your onward or homeward flight.
