I was a little girl who grew up in the villages, not knowing that one day I would become a tourist guide. The love that developed in me while I was working as a hotel receptionist changed my career in tourism.

It is my responsibility as the guide to make sure all that information is noted by the clients. I also remind and brief them on a daily basis. When it comes to lunches, I inform them as well. Some lunches we eat at activity centres, some in a safe local area, and others at the accommodation. This makes it easier for all of us, both the clients and the crew.

The truck is checked daily to avoid minor mistakes. Once the day has started, I brief the clients about what to expect. We stop for lunch depending on our time, area, and whether we have activities that day or not. We enjoy the adventure until we reach our next destination.

When we arrive, we do the check-ins and I show the campers where to pitch their tents. A demonstration is done so that, for the next days coming, every camping client knows how to operate the tent. Rooms are also allocated to the clients who have booked rooms.

I then prepare dinner, we eat, and I brief them for the next day. After that, we chill. Some clients even ask me about my personal life, and I am open about it. The more we get to know each other, the more we start calling ourselves a “family”. A WhatsApp group is created, photos are shared, friendships develop, and memories stay between us even after the tour.

I still have some clients who share photos and say they miss the good times we had while on tour. A guide has to be available should clients need something extra. It makes the clients feel safer.

Just to add a bit: I am the guide who likes to let the clients speak or greet in the language being spoken in the area. I also end up telling the clients about other Nomad routes, what is so nice about them, and what they can see.

While I talk to the clients, I ask them if it is their first time travelling with Nomad or not, and whether they have done other routes with other operators. I end up convincing them to come back again, either with their friends or maybe to do another route, as long as they still book with Nomad Tours.
The duration of the tour won’t be noticeable compared to the amazing time we always share on tour. Even though some days have early starts, activities included, and many kilometres to be driven for the day, I always say: “It’s another happy day.”
